A man has died after he was killed when his SUV crashed into a utility pole in Georgia.
The crash happened Monday afternoon in Gwinnett County.
According to Georgia State Police, the SUV was traveling westbound on Interstate 70 when it crossed over into a ditch.
A trooper tried to pull the SUV over, but the driver got out and started shooting at the trooper.
The trooper tried using his stun gun, but was unsuccessful.
The SUV then came to rest on the utility pole, according to Georgia Highway Patrol Lt.
Jason Meeks.
“The suspect started shooting, hitting two troopers and the vehicle hitting two other vehicles, including a tractor trailer and a semi,” Meeks said.
“Once the suspect was dead, the trooper was transported to the hospital and is listed in critical condition.”
The man, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Meeks added that the suspect had been arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and other charges.
Georgia State Patrol troopers are investigating the crash and will be in contact with the driver’s family.
The Georgia Highway Safety Office is assisting with the investigation.
