A new survey released by the Harvard Graduate School of Education says the average SAT score among Ivy Leaguers at U.S. colleges dropped below 90% for the first time in three years.
The survey by the College Board, a non-profit research and education organization, said the average score dropped to 87.4 for students who completed at least one year of college in 2017.
The percentage of the college’s freshman class who scored at least 90% was 7.7% last year, down from 8.1% in 2016.
In the last two years, the percentage of students who scored above 90% dropped from 15.4% to 12.9%, according to the report.
The College Board has long reported that the average college student scores around 100 points lower on the SAT than the average high school student.
The study also found that the number of SAT scores in 2020 fell by almost 2,500 to 14,832, or 1.2% of the total.
The SAT was taken by nearly 9.2 million students from March through June 2020.
The new figures came from the CollegeBoard’s 2016-2017 college entrance exam, which is the most recent one that has been released for students from across the country.
It showed that the SAT, which has been widely accepted for more than a decade, fell slightly in 2019, from a record high of 9,835,865.
In 2020, the SAT dropped by 4.1 points, to 9,631.
The decline was the largest among high school students.
