Students at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa (UH Mānoa) will soon be able to enroll in classes for which they have been rejected.
The university is currently looking for applicants who were enrolled for fall term in the fall of 2019.
UH Mūnoa students who did not complete their studies this fall may be able apply to enroll for the 2019-2020 academic year at UH.
If approved, they would be able attend classes in September.
The approval process will take at least two years and will include a comprehensive review of the student’s application.
“We’re not going to take any shortcuts, we’re not getting a certain percentage of the class, and we’re going to make sure that every single student has an opportunity to be admitted to a class that meets the requirements,” said UH Dean of Students Karen Kui Kaul.
Kaul said she was confident that students would be given an opportunity for an education.
“I think that’s what students expect, to get an education,” she said.
Kui said the university would continue to work closely with the Department of Education and the Department’s Office of Admissions.
“Our goal is to have students who are academically prepared and have a strong character who are willing to work hard,” she added.
Students are also being encouraged to apply online for classes to help ensure they are admitted to the class.
UHM also said it is also looking to expand its campus for students who want to pursue degrees in the future.
“UHM is working with the Office of Admission to expand the campus,” said Kui.
Koolanui School of Hawaiian Studies is currently accepting applications for summer 2019.
The school is currently recruiting students for its new academic year.
“The first thing we’re doing is looking at our student population and our student body,” said Associate Dean of Student Relations Kimi Oahu.
“So, our goal is just to have as many students as we can, and that’s the most important thing.”
Students will also be able select their preferred major in the 2019–2020 academic cycle.
Oahu said the school will work with students and faculty to decide what degree they want to go into.
“This is a great opportunity for students to make the transition to their major and they can choose to go in with a strong degree,” she continued.
OAHU is also planning to expand into the community for students interested in pursuing a career in health sciences and health professions.
The campus is also partnering with the University at Waimea to expand student access to programs that can help with academic and financial needs.
“If you’re looking to graduate, we want you to be able come to Waimeanui and go in and get your degree,” said Oahu about the university’s new community program.
“For students who come here and want to stay here for a while, we have the opportunity to give them access to a health sciences degree that will make them able to stay in Waimeana,” Oahu added.
The OAHuA community program is a joint program between the University and Waimeae University, which includes the Waimee Health Sciences Campus, the Waikele Community College, the Kailua Community College and the Kaitai Community College.
“It’s a very collaborative program,” Oana said.
“And I think what I like about it is we’re actually partnering with people, we know what our needs are, we work with each other to find solutions to those needs.”
Students can expect to see some changes to the school’s curriculum, as well as the opening of the school library.
The opening of a new library at the Kaimuki Center for the Arts, a historic building that was built in 1893, will open on April 15.
The library will be accessible to students of all ages.
“A lot of the books are going to be in the library, and they’re going be a lot of fun to read,” said student Rachael A. Kim, who is a former Oahu College student.
“My friends who were in college when I graduated, they’re still learning, and I think it’s going to become a lot more of a part of their life.”
The library also will be able hold an expanded library of general education books.
“Some of those are really important,” said Kim, “and it’s a great addition to our library.”
A large portion of the campus will also have a new outdoor courtyard.
The park, which will be open for public use, will be used for outdoor events and events for students.
“One of the things that was really cool about this project was that it was really a collaborative effort between the school and the community,” said A.M. Mānau, the university community coordinator.
