Australia’s biggest universities are attracting international students, according to a new report by the University of Melbourne.
The report, published today, shows that Australia’s top universities are among the best places to study in the world, but its not just a matter of getting the best student numbers.
The average Australian university offers a range of courses, from a bachelor’s degree to a master’s degree.
“The universities are very diverse in terms of their breadth of content and breadth of the curriculum,” says Peter Jones, the university’s director of undergraduate education.
“Some have a very focused curriculum, whereas others are very global in scope.
Some are more international-focused than others.”
The report also finds that Australia has the most internationally recognised universities in the country, with the University at Albany ranked the best, followed by the Australian National University (ANU), the University (University of Melbourne) and the University and College of New South Wales (UCSW).
Universities that offer international programmes include the University College London (UCLEX), the Sydney University of Technology (SYT), the Australian Institute of Technology Sydney (AITS) and Curtin University (Curtin).
Other popular institutions include the Australian Medical School (AMS), the College of Science at the University, the University in South Australia (UNSA), the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Monash University (MUNS).
“International students have come to the universities in large numbers, both because of the opportunities for international study and because of what the universities can offer to students and staff,” Jones says.
“But they also come for many other reasons, particularly with the cost of living in Australia.”
